How to: Teach Verb Conjugation using TPR
You’ve made it to March! Time to get crackin’ on those verb conjugation charts (said no one ever).
Alas, it is time, though. If you’ve held off teaching required grammar until this point in the year, your kiddos should have a foundation upon which to begin building this layer of syntax and structure.
Here’s how I introduce the CONCEPT of conjugation.
Why did you all caps CONCEPT, you ask?
Because after teaching for so long, the WHY of conjugation is more important than the how.
Refined use of properly conjugated spellings and tenses develops slowly over many years. Therefore, I care more about them feeling like they understand the impact conjugation has when trying to make meaningful utterances.
If they know they want to talk about a certain action done by a certain person, conjugation matters.
